Aishling was born in New York but was raised in Ireland in County Cavan, home of her parents, Malacy and Mary. Aishling has been living in Yonkers now for the past 20 months and describes it as a “home away from home.” Leaving her family and friends was the hardest decision for Aishling to make, but she is overwhelmed and extremely gratefulfor the welcome she received in the Woodlawn/Yonkers community.
Aishling was educated at Milltown NS and then Loreo College, Cavan. She furthered her studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway where she graduated with an Hons BA in Economics and Social Studies. Having graduated in 2008 and facing a tough economy, Aishing decided to pursue her original dreams of working with children and completed a Diploma in Motessori teaching with the Portobello Institute. Prior to moving to New York, Aishling worked as a Montessori Teacher to pre-school children in Co. Galway.
Since moving to New York, Aishling has continued her career in Childcare working as a nanny in Pelham, NY. Her love of Irish dance and passion for keeping her Irish heritage alive led her back into the world of Irish dancing. She is now a Student Teacher at the McGough Academy and is currently studying for her TCRG Certification. A tremendous achievemnt for Aishling recently has been assisting in taking the McGough Academy’s U-11 Ceili Team to the World Irish Dance Championships in Boston, MA.
Irish Dancing has always placed a huge part in Aishling’s life. She started dancing at the age of four with the Ard Rialla O’Donoghue School (formerly The Leonard School of Irish Dancing) and competed at Ulter, All-Ireland and World Dance Championships. She also participated at a local level in Scor na nOg competitions in ceili and set dancing. With all this time dedicated to Irish Dancing it was difficult to fit in any other activities but Aishling was an avid swimmer growing up and always had a passion for singing. She sang with her Nana in the Drumlane Church Choir and was also an Ulster Scor na nOg Ballad Group Champion. She will be using her many talents to assist in the McGough Academy Recitals and lead our Adult Performance Troop!
